Communicating to Kids – Responsible Online and Offline
Advertising
Presented by:
Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) As the children's arm of the advertising industry's
self-regulation program, CARU evaluates child-directed advertising and
promotional material in all media to advance truthfulness, accuracy and
consistency; its scope includes advertising directed to children under
12 and online privacy and safety directed to children under 13.
Objective:
To provide TIA members and others in the youth marketplace with an
introduction to CARU and “must-have” information on new
guidelines, emerging issues and relevant laws regarding any type of
advertising or marketing outreach to young consumers. This session
will also include a brief introduction to children’s
online privacy as related to toys and games as well as related to
ongoing communications between children and toy and game providers and
media literacy – including the blurring of editorial and
advertising content.
NOTE: A follow-up session on children’s online safety
will be scheduled for later in 2011.
Who Should Attend:
Toy, youth and entertainment companies who create, sell, advertise or
market products that are primarily intended for children under 13.
