Webinar Led by FTC Expert to Provide Toy Companies with Guidance on
Environmental Marketing Claims
To commemorate Earth Day 2010, TIA has invited an expert from the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to introduce members of the toy industry
to the “Do’s and Don’ts” of environmental
marketing claims.
During a one-hour webinar on Wednesday, April 21 at 2:00 pm
(Eastern), Laura Koss, a senior attorney in the FTC’s division of
enforcement, will provide an overview of the Commission’s role in
helping marketers avoid making unfair or deceptive environmental claims
and introduce the general principles of FTC’s advertising law. A
primary focus of the session will be an introduction to the FTC’s
Guides for the
Use of Environmental Marketing Claims, also known as the Green
Guides.
The session will include a discussion of:
- General Principles of Advertising Law: Claims and
Substantiation
- Green Guides: Application, Purpose, Principles, and Review
Process
- Types of Marketing Claims
- Emerging Environmental Advertising Issues
A summary of several case studies will help raise awareness of
“green marketing” claims and illustrate various regulatory
and compliance requirements. A question and answer session will also
help participants gain a better understanding of the appropriate
approach to green marketing.
Compliance officers, public relations, marketing, and sales
professionals at toy, youth and entertainment companies who need to know
how to responsibly (and legally) communicate environmental claims
relating to toy products, packages or services are encouraged to
attend.
Registration for this webinar is free for TIA members and $49 for
non-members; advance registration will begin on Monday, April 12, 2010.
As with other TIA webinars, the presentation will also be available
post-event for those who are unable to participate live.
