Promotion of the “green” attributes of products and
services is a rapidly growing component of environmental marketing
practices that are growing across a diverse array of industry sectors.

making unfair or deceptive environmental claims and introduce the
general principles of FTC’s advertising law. A primary focus
of the session will be an introduction to the FTC’s Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing
Claims, also known as the Green Guides.
The session will include a discussion of:
- General Principles of Advertising Law: Claims and
- Green Guides: Application, Purpose, Principles, and Review
- Types of Marketing Claims
- Emerging Environmental Advertising Issues
A summary of several case studies will help raise awareness of
“green marketing” claims and illustrate various regulatory
and compliance requirements. A question and answer session will also
help participants gain a better understanding of the appropriate
approach to green marketing.
Compliance officers, public relations, marketing, and sales
professionals at toy, youth and entertainment companies who need to know
how to responsibly (and legally) communicate environmental claims
relating to toy products, packages or services are encouraged to
