Annual Strategy Meeting Focuses on Priority Issues for the Toy
Industry in 2012
October 11, 2011 | Members of the Toy Industry
Association (TIA) Federal Government Affairs Committee, State Government
Affairs Committee, Safety Standards and Technical Committee,
Environmental Sustainability Committee and Marketing to Children
Committee gathered in Dallas last week to prioritize key issues that TIA
staff and member companies have identified for the toy industry.
The discussions, which took place during the annual TIA External Affairs
Strategy Meeting, addressed topics such as product safety and chemical
regulations; standards alignment and international trade; environmental
sustainability, marketing to children and other social responsibility
topics.
“Input from TIA’s members helps to chart the
Association’s legislative and regulatory agenda and to shape our
advocacy, outreach and messaging strategies for the next year,”
explained Ed Desmond, TIA Executive Vice President of External
Affairs.
Briefing papers distributed prior to the event provided background on
each priority area and a Tracking Chart summarized specific issues
identified in each area, including priority and status, TIA staff lead,
key audiences, industry positions and message points.
“… today, I have a much better handle on the complexity
of the challenges faced in dealing with the various levels of government
(both the political and technical challenges),” said one
first-time participant in an e-mail received following the meeting.
“I have a large degree of confidence in the TIA team in meeting
those challenges and would also like to thank my fellow committee
members for their efforts. While we normally think of ourselves as
competitors, you have done great work in representing the industry on
our behalf all of these years.”
The meeting was co-located with TIA’s Fall Toy
Preview to make it easier for members to attend the portions of
this meeting that were of most interest to their company; participants
also attended the Fall Toy Preview Opening Night Party.
Questions about any of the topics discussed at the Strategy Meeting
may be directed to Ed
Desmond, TIA EVP of External Affairs.
