Digital Kids Conference to Explore Toys and Digital Worlds;
Discount Offered to TIA Members
March 26, 2012 | The blending of the physical and
digital worlds of toys and entertainment will be the focus of
the 6th annual
Digital Kids Conference (formerly Engage! Expo) held in Los
Angeles, CA this spring. Endorsed by the Toy Industry Association (TIA),
the conference is offering a discounted rate for TIA members, who may
save $100 on a one-day pass or $200 on a two-day pass for the April
25-26, 2012 event at the Pasadena Convention Center.
Panels, presentations and interviews provided
by more than 70 speakers who specialize in kid-related digital content,
services and software, will arm conference participants with best
practices, current trends and effective strategies to develop and market
to digital kids and youth. The event will be separated into five tracks
– content, business, safety, operations and market research
– giving event goers a well-rounded view into how to build, manage
and monetize services, products and interactive content.
A panel presentation on Day 1 of the conference, Safety and Privacy in Mobile Apps (Safety
track) will explore safety and privacy concerns for children in online
environments. Speakers Kenneth H. Abbe, Staff Attorney, Bureau of
Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission and Travis LeBlanc,
Special Assistant, Attorney General for Technology, State of California,
will discuss geo-location tracking, uploading and sharing of
photos/videos, geo-tagging, in-app purchases, targeted mobile ads, and
other topics, to help companies spot risks and develop kid-friendly apps
on multiple platforms. The discussion will also cover new COPPA
(Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) requirements and
compliance, as well as recent studies and enforcement actions.
“Generation App was a key trend spotted at this year’s
American International Toy Fair, as more and more toys incorporate apps
or work with popular tablets and smartphones found in the home,”
said TIA President Carter Keithley. “It’s important that the
toy industry keep ahead of the curve to ensure that digital play is safe
and protects the privacy of children of all ages.”
Other panel presentations throughout the conference include: Transmedia: Connected Play Crossing
Seamlessly (Content track), Family Gaming – It’s Not Just Child’s
Play (Content track), Legal Implications Across Games, Social Media, Virtual
Worlds and Mobile (Business track) and Kids Focus Group: What Are They Playing, Where are They
Spending? (Market Research track). Spin Master, National
Football League, Cartoon Network, Ubisoft, Cookie Jar, Sony Online,
KIDZBOP, Mind Candy, Peanuts, Rovio/Angry Birds, Wizard 101/KingIsle,
Google, Yahoo! Kids and The NPD Group are among the participating
companies.
