TIF Brings Necessities and Toys to New York City Kids with
Chronic
Health and Home Issues
November 12, 2012 | On
Monday, November 12, children living in
fragile or chaotic homes and suffering from physical disabilities,
chronic medical conditions and terminal illnesses received duffel bags
filled with necessities and toys from the Toy Industry Foundation
(TIF) and My
Stuff Bags Foundation.
At the New
Alternatives for Children (NAC) Manhattan headquarters on Monday
afternoon, volunteers from TIF and distribution partner Kids in
Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) handed out “My Stuff” bags
filled with clothes, blankets, toiletries, stuffed animals and toys to
30 kids served by NAC. Additionally, 600 duffels delivered last week to
NAC will go to children across all of New York City's five boroughs now
through the holidays, including those affected by Hurricane Sandy in
Staten Island, Far Rockaway, and Red Hook, NY.
NAC is a children’s charity that helps kids living in
poverty
or difficult situations, and who have chronic medical conditions ranging
from terminal diagnoses such as Neuroblastoma, to physical disabilities
including muscular dystrophy, and rare diagnoses such as Oto Palatio
Digital Syndrome.
“The Toy Industry Foundation was proud to provide these
children with a little bit of hope and joy while they face grown-up
problems at such a young age,” said Jean Butler, executive
director of the Toy Industry Foundation. “It is our hope that in
sharing the gift of play we allow them to just be kids and show them
that many people care about them.”
“It was nice meeting you,” said Tyrese, a teenage boy who
received a bag at the Manhattan event. “Thank you so much for
sharing your toys with us. You made a lot of people smile today.”
Toys for this distribution were donated by generous
manufacturers/distributors and retailers through TIF’s Toy Bank.
