Toy Industry Association Suggests “Mini” Toys and Games as Egg-Cellent Additions to Easter Baskets

New York, NY | April 5, 2011 – For those Easter bunnies who want to balance the jelly beans and chocolates with a few alternatives in this year’s colorful holiday baskets, the Toy Industry Association (TIA) says the fantastic range of small toys and games now available on store shelves can extend the fun of springtime play to the entire family.

“Toys offer a terrific accompaniment to sweet treats,” said Adrienne Appell, one of Toy Industry Association’s trend specialists. “Mini- collectibles for both boys and girls are small in size AND price … which makes them a perfect addition to Easter baskets.”

Minis are a part of the “Cent-sational” trend – affordable toys that provide immense play value – identified at TIA’s annual Toy Fair in February 2011.

A few of TIA’s picks from the vast selection of mini-collectible toys and games that will be great for Easter are:

  • The Zhu Zhu Puppies and Pups Accessories and the Zhu Zhu Babies from Cepia, LLC are highly collectible and a lot of fun for kids. Each baby or puppy comes with its own name, personality and accessories.

  • A modern take on the classic chick and bunny, the FurReal Newborn Babies from Hasbro will have animal lovers squealing with delight. The Newborn babies are smaller versions of the popular line of animal friends that make noise and react to the world around them, just like real pets.

  • The 2011 Toy of the Year Award-winning The Sing-A-Ma-Jigs from Mattel are back with a brand-new character singing the Easter classic, “Here Comes Peter Cottontail.”

Mini games are a great gift for tweens, teens and kids of all ages.  To engage the family in fun, TIA suggests:

  • Rory’s Story Cubes from Gamewright is a pocket-sized creative story generator that will provide hours of imaginative play for all ages when the family settles down after an egg-hunt!

  • Spot It! by Blue Orange Games is an assortment of four challenging card games that engage all players simultaneously in fast action and endless fun.

These are just a few of the many toys that are wonderful for Easter baskets.

As always, TIA reminds families to make all play fun AND safe by keeping toys with small parts away from children under age three and children who mouth toys.
