February 27, 2012 | Educators, toy and game designers, developers, child psychologists, digital media producers, analysts and more will come together to present discussions and lead workshops at the 2012 Sandbox Summit, Going Mobile, Going Global: Tracking the Anywhere/Everywhere State of Play, held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from April 17-18, 2012.

Registration for the two-day conference is currently open; discounts on hotel rates at the Boston Marriott in Cambridge, Massachusetts are available through March 12, 2012.

Launched in January 2008 by Claire Green and Wendy Smolen, Sandbox Summit® is a series of conferences designed to address how technology affects the ways kid play, learn, and connect.  Presented by the MIT Education Arcade and Comparative Media Studies, the 2012 Sandbox Summit will tackle the mobile revolution and its impact on the “tools” and “rules” of play:

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Alex Chisholm, Executive Director, Learning Games Network;
  • Drew Davidson, Ph.D., Director, Entertainment Technology Center – Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University;
  • Carla Engelbrecht Fisher, President and Founder, No Crusts Interactive;
  • Alex Games, Education Design Director at Microsoft Studios;
  • Jane Gould, Senior Vice President, Consumer Insights, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids and Family Group Research;
  • Jamie Gutfreund, Head of Business Development, The Intelligence Group;
  • Russell Hampton, President, Disney Publishing Worldwide;
  • Jeremy Roberts, Director of Technology, PBS KIDS Interactive;
  • Dr. Carla F.P. Seal-Wanner, Director of Education and Curriculum, FlickerLab
  • Alice Wilder, Educational Psychologist and Producer; and
  • Eric Zimmerman, Game Designer
    … and more.

The event will also include keynote addresses delivered by Rex Ishibashi, CEO, Callaway Digital Arts and Colleen Macklin, Associate Professor in the School of Art, Media and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design and Director of PETLab.

“Participants will hear the latest research, touch the newest devices and discover what real-time technology is teaching our kids in a dynamic forum that includes a wide range of different disciplines and viewpoints,” said Claire Green, Sandbox Summit Co-Founder. Interactive workshops on both afternoons and a cocktail party and product showcase co-hosted by ShowStoppers® make this a hands-on experience for all attendees.

Registration for the Summit is now open and discounted hotel rates are available through March 12th. For more information, including the conference agenda, visit SandboxSummit.org. The Toy Industry Association (TIA) is a sponsor for the 2012 Sandbox Summit.
